Believe that you can

When we’re stuck for an extended period of time, such as months or years, it’s not uncommon to completely lose heart. Acceptance of this new normal may even be the most logical, or even the only, choice we see. Resignation to this new way of life is not a happy decision, but rather a surrender to the inevitable, as all other attempts to break free have failed.

Let me tell you this, even though I know your first instinct is going to resit it: You have to choose to believe. You are the only one that can place your confidence where it belongs. The lies that you are believing cannot be allowed to govern your life anymore. A time has come for you to take discouragement by the throat and extinguish it from your life. Then, call out what you know to be lies and retaliate against those as well.

Suppose you can do this. Suppose you can rise up, identify, and fight back. Now what? Now, you rendezvous with the Lord, your commanding officer, and he gives you what you need to outlast and prevail over that which opposes you.

Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:20-17 NLT, emphasis mine.

One of our most provocative adversaries is the lie that God is not for us. That single, tiny lie can unravel every last thread of faith we have. This is why it is critical that we use the armor he has given us to defend what we know is truth.

So believe that you can. Belief is the first step. Then, allow God to show you the rest. He has provided everything you need, and he’s ready to show you how to put it to good use.
