To abide in Christ through the good and the bad – this is the goal. For some, it’s easiest to cling to the Lord when there is no one else to turn to – when the situation is desperate. For others, they claim God’s goodness and favor when all is well and nothing is there to oppose their plans. But to abide, to remain steadfast in Christ’s love no matter the situation – that is another thing entirely.

9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. 10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!  – John 15:9-11 NLT

Picture remaining in his love through the crisis and what peace awaits as you trust his timing and will above your own. Imagine the comfort as you look through the lense of eternity and understand that the pain of this world is the closest you will ever come to hell. There is much ahead. Abide in him. Remain in his love.

Now picture remaining in his love when the wind is at your back and everything is right in your life. The opportunity is to lean in and experience the heart he has for you and the people around you. To see his joy and experience his pleasure. He is not done working when all is right.

Abide. Remain. Seek.

Let your heart, whether it is happy or sad, stay firmly rooted in the Lord. May your thoughts always fixate on his promises. Ask for the bigger picture that you may always have eternity in mind, that you may focus on the things that matter.

Be joyful. Continually seek the Lord. Abide. Remain.
